Each fall we hold a firmwide Pro Bono Celebration, taking time to reflect on the service we have completed over the last 12 months, to hear from a service provider about new volunteer opportunities, and to recognize individuals who have demonstrated a significant commitment to giving back.

This December, several dozen attorneys and staff heard from House of Ruth Maryland representatives Sarah Jackson, Donor Relations Manager, and Florencia Carrizo Helou, Associate Director of Development, about the abundant services offered by the nearly 50-year-old organization that provides safe and stable housing for women, children, and families experiencing homelessness and abuse. The firm learned that House of Ruth’s wrap-around services include an entire legal clinic, working to address the root cause of issues and counseling for perpetrators, as well as rental assistance and service coordinators, among other initiatives.

Gallagher has been contributing to House of Ruth Maryland’s Adopt-a-Family program for several years and looks forward to providing additional support in the years ahead.

Firm Pro Bono & Community Service Recognition

Internally, Gallagher recognized Sangeetha Kannan (litigation attorney), Sarah Simmons (litigation attorney), and Morgan Miller (litigation paralegal) with a commemorative plaque for the pro bono hours they achieved in their efforts to help asylum-seeking women and children. These cases often require years of work and resources, and it is a joy to make a meaningful difference in the lives of others. Mia Kobylski (legal administrative assistant) was recognized for her volunteering commitment to the Baltimore community and beyond.

Our pro bono celebration is catered through Dignity Plates Culinary Training, a social enterprise of The Franciscan Center of Baltimore, which Gallagher has enjoyed a partnership with for several years. The Franciscan Center provides a 13-week culinary training to students who are seeking to build a culinary career. Our attorneys and staff are tremendous fans of our Dignity Plates chefs and their tasty cuisine.
