Gallagher Evelius & Jones is proud to announce that David G. Sommer has been elected president of the Bankruptcy Bar Association for the District of Maryland.
The Maryland Bankruptcy Bar Association (MBBA) supports attorneys who practice all aspects of bankruptcy and insolvency law through education, advocacy, service, and collegiality.
A member of the Bankruptcy Bar Association since 2004, David has fulfilled numerous roles for the organization, including treasurer, Chapter Chair for the Baltimore chapter, At-Large Director – Baltimore, and board secretary. His commitment to the organization includes delivering presentations on bankruptcy-related topics such as UCC Article 9 sales, lien avoidance, non-dischargeability, expert witness testimony, bankruptcy issues facing schools and universities, and attorney ethics. As president, he will focus on growing the MBBA membership and providing quality educational and networking opportunities for its members
David has been a commercial and bankruptcy litigator at Gallagher Evelius & Jones for 20 years and guides businesses across multiple industries through their most challenging conflicts. He has argued for clients and earned victories in scores of cases before trial and appellate courts, arbitrators, and administrative agencies.
In addition to supporting clients, David enjoys giving back through organizations such as Maryland Volunteer Lawyers Service (MVLS). He serves as president of its Board of Directors as well as provides pro bono representation to clients who otherwise could not afford it.
David has been recognized by Chambers USA since 2019 for his work in Bankruptcy/Restructuring and in Best Lawyers® in America since 2019 as a leading lawyer in bankruptcy and creditor-debtor rights/insolvency and reorganization law as well as commercial litigation.
David resides in Ellicott City with his wife and three children.
