Group clean-up at Baltimore Holocaust MemorialAs part of Gallagher Evelius & Jones’ priority of community involvement and promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion, the firm hosted Howard Libit, the executive director of the Baltimore Jewish Council, and Emily Braverman Goodman, director of Holocaust and Countering Anti-Semitism Programs at the BJC, for a speaker’s luncheon in late October. The pair addressed lawyers and staff at Gallagher, sharing the history, purpose, and accomplishments of the BJC, as well as some of the challenges and discrimination encountered by members of the Jewish community.

Expanding on this informative discussion, a group of about a dozen volunteers from Gallagher Evelius & Jones and several of their family members joined Mr. Libit on a chilly mid-November morning at the Baltimore Holocaust Memorial, located at the intersection of Lombard and Gay Streets in downtown Baltimore, to conduct a much-needed clean-up of the site. Participants learned about the history of this important memorial and collected more than 50 bags of refuse during the volunteer effort, including discarded drug paraphernalia, trash, and leaves.

“We appreciate the opportunity to learn more about the efforts of the Baltimore Jewish Council, the history of the Jewish community in Baltimore, and sadly, the antisemitism that exists today,” said Brad Robbins, Gallagher’s executive director. “Participating in the clean-up of a site meant to pay tribute to the victims of the Holocaust and their families, while solemn, was a fulfilling and educational opportunity for members of the firm and their family members.”
